Director of Governmental Affairs : Wendy Helgemo (Ho-Chunk)
The Office of Governmental Affairs, originally the Coalition for Indian Housing and Development, represents the unique and historic interests of tribes and tribally designated housing entities on American Indian and Alaska Native housing issues.
Goals:
- Maintaining a relationship with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- Providing advocacy to tribes and tribally designated housing entities.
- Working to ensure that funding levels are maintained for strong Indian housing programs.
- Supporting funding increases in Indian Housing Block Grant.
- Promoting amendments to the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act that provide more resources and flexibility to tribes and tribally designated housing entities to administer Indian housing programs.
- Represents NAIHC before the Congress and the federal government to advocate for legislation and policy favorable to American Indian and Alaska Native housing needs.
