The NAIHC is disappointed that President Trump called into question the Native American Housing Block Grants funding in his signing statement for the FY17 appropriations bill. Tribal programs are rooted in the United States’ trust responsibilities and treaty obligations towards Indian Tribes and Native Americans. These programs are not based on race or ethnicity but rather on the centuries-long political relationship between Tribes and the United States. We look forward to working with the Administration and Congress to ensure that tribal programs, and particularly those that help provide safe, affordable housing in Indian Country, are adequately funded and managed effectively.
