Support NAIHC

Founded in 1974, the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) has been crucial in supporting Tribal housing organizations. As a membership-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, NAIHC provides training and technical assistance (TTA), advocacy support, and knowledge-based resources to Tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs). The organization informs Congress about the challenges Tribes face in housing, infrastructure, and community development efforts. NAIHC collaborates with key federal agencies to improve their effectiveness in Native communities. Its primary mission is to assist tribal housing entities in providing safe, decent, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing for Native people.

NAIHC’s membership includes 267 members representing 464 Tribes and TDHEs across the entire United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. All 574 federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages are eligible for NAIHC membership. Additionally, NAIHC has members from state-recognized tribes that qualify for housing assistance under the 1937 Housing Act; these members were grandfathered in under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA). The Department of Hawaiian Homelands, which administers the Native Hawaiian Housing Block Grant program, is also a part of NAIHC.
