NAIHC Statement from the Executive Director

Dear Members,

We are aware of the New York Times report suggesting that the President’s forthcoming budget proposal may recommend cuts to the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG), a critical source of funding for Tribal housing programs across the country. It’s important for us to acknowledge that the President’s budget is a proposal outlining the Administration’s funding requests and priorities. Ultimately, Congress determines final funding levels through the appropriations process.

NAIHC is closely monitoring the budgetary process, and once the President’s proposed budget to Congress is officially released, we will provide our members with an analysis of any proposed cuts to IHBG or other Tribal housing-related programs. We will also share advocacy materials and guidance to support your outreach to lawmakers.

Together, we must ensure that the united voice of Indian Country resonates with strength in Washington, making our collective impact powerful and driving the outcomes we seek. Thank you for your dedicated leadership and commitment to protecting and advancing housing in Tribal communities. We will continue to keep you updated as important information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Rudy Soto, Executive Director
