Legislative Update: Federal Funding & Fall District Work Period

Congress has approved, and the President has signed into law, a continuing resolution (CR) that funds the federal government through December 11, 2026. The temporary funding measure generally maintains current funding levels while giving Congress additional time to negotiate and complete FY2027 appropriations bills. For Tribal housing, NAIHC will continue closely monitoring negotiations over final FY2027 funding for the Indian Housing Block Grant, IHBG Competitive, ICDBG, Tribal HUD-VASH, Section 184, and other federal programs serving Native communities.

As the House concludes its September legislative work and Members of Congress spend an extended period in their home districts during the fall election season, NAIHC encourages Tribal leaders, housing authorities, and TDHEs to use this opportunity to engage their congressional offices locally.

Consider requesting an in-district meeting, inviting your Representative and congressional staff to tour Tribal housing developments, or hosting a Tribal housing roundtable with local and regional partners. These visits are an opportunity to demonstrate firsthand how federal housing investments are being used, discuss unmet housing and infrastructure needs, and educate congressional offices about priorities facing Native communities.

With final FY2027 appropriations and other Tribal housing legislation awaiting further congressional action, the coming weeks provide an important opportunity to strengthen relationships with congressional offices and ensure Tribal housing needs remain visible when lawmakers return to Washington.
