National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) Announces New Executive Director

The sole national association serving tribal housing programs in the United States appointed its new Executive Director today. Douglas Marconi Sr. will lead the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) as its new Executive Director, beginning in March 2024. NAIHC, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, is headquartered in DC near the nation’s capital.

Mr. Marconi, an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Nation of of Idaho, brings 29 years of experience in leading and managing a broad variety of housing programs in Indian country. Doug brings both Executive Director experience as well as construction management experience, having served both the Colville Indian Housing Authority and the Yakama Nation Housing Authority for a total of nearly 3 decades.

Mr. Marconi brings this experience including leadership roles – having served on the Board of Directors of NAIHC as well as its regional association, the Northwest Indian Housing Association. In addition, Doug served on the Board of Directors of AMERIND, the only 100% Tribally owned insurance provider in Indian country. Doug also served as Vice Chair for the Okanogan County Community Action Program. Doug and his family live in Grand Coulee, located in Eastern Washington State. Thomas Lozano, NAIHC Board Chair stated, “Doug brings a unique and highly relevant set of skills to his new leadership role. Doug has walked in our members’ shoes as a former housing director for a large tribal housing authority.

He knows first-hand the challenges that our members face. Speaking for everyone on the NAIHC Board, we are excited to work with him in this new role.” NAIHC is composed of 288 members representing 474 tribes and housing organizations.

The organization advocates for housing opportunities and increased funding, provides conference events, training and technical assistance for its members, and conducts research and informational services relating to Native housing issues and programs. NAIHC will be holding a 50th Anniversary Celebration – its 2024 Annual Conference and Tradeshow, at the Seminole Tribe’s Hard Rock Resort and Casino, June 23-27 in Hollywood FL.
